All you need to know about the 2018 Volkswagen Polo

This is All you need to know about the 2018 Volkswagen Polo. Volkswagen, a German automobile maker, is all set to launch the next generation Polo hatchback in 2018. Often termed as a hot hatch, this new generation model is about to enter the production next month at the company’s Navarra plant in Spain. The Polo has always been one of the most popular choices among the people in the premium passenger hatchback segment. This new generation model is stuffed with both aesthetic as well as mechanical features to its brim.

Since 1975, when the first time Volkswagen used the name Polo, around 14 million units of the Polo has been sold till date. It has been eight years long since Polo went through an update. Thus this one is considered to be the most significant update that the car needed for a long time. The Polo will be going through some new changes where the car will get a slight modification in terms of looks as well as the mechanism.

Since the past many years, Volkswagen has been giving a tough competition to the other popular brands. So let’s delve in a little deeper and find out what all this new generation has in store for us.

More or less similar technical specifications

The Volkswagen Polo is ready to be a new trendsetter with its new style and improved designing cues. As for the technical specifications, the hatchback will be offered in both the fuel variants – petrol and diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol engine car will be capable of delivering a highest power of 75 bhp at 5,400 revs per minute and a maximum torque of 110 Nm at 4,200 revs per minute. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will be capable enough to be producing a peak power of 90 bhp at 4,200 revs per minute and a highest torque of 230 Nm at 1,500-2,500 revs per minute.

Safety will be on the high

As usual, the Volkswagen Polo will be a tough competitor to most of the cars in this segment. In saying that, the company has also stuffed in a good amount of safety and braking features to make it look fiercer when compared to car from other top automobile makers. The front wheels will be given disc brakes while the rear wheels will work with drums. Other braking features include ABS (anti-lock braking system) and dual front air-bags.

To provide a smooth and safe ride even on high speed, the front wheels will have McPherson Strut with Stabiliser Bar while the rear wheels will be given Semi-Independent Trailing Arm. High-mounted stop, emergency exit and ananti-pinch window will be the extra safety features that the car will be having.

The special interior

Along with safety, the Volkswagen Polo 2018 will come with a host of interior accessories that will add on to the premiumness of the car. The new hatchback is about to see some cool features like a touchscreen infotainment system, voice command and SMS viewer which is only available in the top-end Highline trim. Bluetooth connectivity, music system with USB, i-POD connectivity, phonebook sync and four speakers are the features that will be seen in the Highline as well as the mid-spec Comfortline. However, the base variant Trendline will only be getting standard radio preparation.

The hot hatchback will have enough legroom at the front so that the driver and the fellow passenger can have a comfortable drive. At the rear seat, three grown up adults could fit in quite comfortably. There will also be ample boot space, as is evident from the current generation of the car. The seat covers will have eleven different colours to choose from. The interior design of the car includes dash pads with 13 different decors along with two interior trim versions.

Exteriors styling

The body of the new generation Polo gives a snazzy look where the car’s height is reduced by 7mm. The size of car (length and width) will also be increased to some extent. New features that will be seen on the exterior part of the hatchback are the dual beam headlamps and reflectors on therear bumper. The wheels will be made with R14 steel along with covers. The car comes with heat-insulating glass for rear and side windows. The detailing on the front radiator grille will be given chrome bits to it. The halogen headlamps come with black finishing along with cornering lights.

There will be a total of 14-18 different colours to choose from, while there will be few colour trims among them that will be given a dual-tone paint scheme. With the increase in the dimension, the car will be long with a short roofline, which would mean a sportier car on the cards. The car will also have front spoiler to add to the ruggedness to the car along with a rear spoiler over the rear windscreen to make it look sporty. The headlight clusters are sharper and sleeker to appear like a more slimmed down.

Summing Up

Slated for a launch in 2018, the Volkswagen Polo will be competing with the like of the premium hatchback segment like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Hyundai i20 and the upcoming generation of the Maruti Suzuki Swift. However, considering the addition of many other features, the expected price tag would be somewhere around Rs. 8-9 lakhs, which is still a notch higher than the rest.

Having said that, the next generation of Volkswagen Polo, being stuffed with many of latest features and specifications, will stand to be good in justifying, if at all the expected price prevails. The Polo and the Vento are the most important models in the company’s Indian lineup. And the truth that Volkswagen cars carry a tag of quality is well known. Hence, the quality, on the part of the customers, are never compromised with. The same notion can be applied in thecase of this new generation Polo as well, which, by no means, is less in standards compared to any of its Indian or global passenger vehicle sibling.
