KT, South Korea’s major telecommunications company, has announced a collaboration with Intel to launch Wi-Fi 7, the latest generation of wireless network technology. This partnership makes KT the first network service provider to offer Wi-Fi 7 technology to consumers.
Wi-Fi 7 is set to revolutionize the wireless connectivity experience by transmitting more data in each transmission and substantially increasing internet speeds. This technology represents an upgrade from the current Wi-Fi 6/6E standard and is expected to be finalized by early 2024.
The partnership between KT and Intel aims to develop and promote Wi-Fi 7 technology, while also pursuing technology innovation and conducting interoperability tests. According to Kim Byung-gyun, the senior vice president of KT’s Device Business Unit, their collaboration with Intel lays a strong foundation for providing consumers with an excellent Wi-Fi 7 experience.
The new Wi-Fi 7 technology has several advanced features, including multilink operation, which enables the simultaneous use of two or more frequency bands, leading to faster speeds and greater capacity. KT’s Wi-Fi 7 Access Point (AP) can deliver up to 11.5 Gigabits per second with four antennas, enabling the creation of service infrastructure for multi-gigabit broadband utilization.
During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, KT presented its Wi-Fi 7 technology, called GiGA Wi-Fi Premium 7, interoperating with Intel’s upcoming Wi-Fi 7 solution, allowing customers to experience the next-generation wireless network technology.
Eric McLaughlin, the vice president of Intel’s Client Computing Group and the general manager of the Wireless Solutions Group, expressed his excitement to work with KT on this project, stating that their collaboration and co-engineering will ensure interoperability and performance between KT’s APs and Intel PC Client devices, improving the wireless connectivity experience for customers.
The collaboration between KT and Intel is a significant step towards making Wi-Fi 7 a reality for consumers. It is expected that the new Wi-Fi 7 technology will be a game-changer in the wireless connectivity industry, supporting high-speed devices, massive P2P sharing, teleconferencing, and immersive AR and VR experiences.
