Paris – Renault, the renowned automobile manufacturer, is set to launch a coupe-ified version of its popular SUV, the Austral, in response to the growing trend of SUVs with coupe-like designs. The forthcoming car, touted as a “top-of-the-range coupe SUV,” will be built on the CMF-CD platform and will feature E-Tech hybrid powertrains, similar to the Austral.
Dubbed the Renault Rafale, the new coupe SUV derives its name from the iconic Caudron Renault C460 racing plane of the 1930s. The Caudron Renault C460 was a remarkable single-seater aircraft designed to break records and achieve victory in competitions. It boasted a supercharged six-cylinder Renault aircraft engine and was later renamed Rafale, meaning “gusty wind” in French, after Renault acquired Caudron in 1933.
The name choice pays homage to the rich aviation heritage and symbolizes the spirit of speed and excellence. Renault’s decision to associate the unveiling of the new Rafale with the 54th Paris Air Show in Le Bourget this June further emphasizes the connection to aviation.
The Renault Rafale is part of the company’s strategy to diversify its SUV lineup and cater to the evolving preferences of customers. The growing demand for coupe SUVs has prompted Renault to enter this segment, following in the footsteps of other automakers who have found success with similar models.
While details about the Renault Rafale’s design and specifications are yet to be revealed, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a blend of style, performance, and advanced hybrid technology. The use of the CMF-CD platform and E-Tech hybrid powertrains, already employed in the Austral, hints at a similar level of innovation and efficiency in the upcoming model.
The introduction of the Renault Rafale marks an exciting chapter for the brand, as it combines the allure of aviation history with contemporary automotive design and technology. Renault‘s commitment to capturing the essence of the original Rafale racing plane suggests that the new Coupe SUV aims to offer a thrilling driving experience.
Automotive enthusiasts and aviation aficionados alike will be eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the Renault Rafale at the upcoming Paris Air Show in Le Bourget. It is anticipated that the new model will not only serve as a tribute to the brand’s heritage but also make a significant impact in the competitive Coupe SUV market.
