History of the Internet — According to the UBS note, which Insider has seen, the OpenAI-owned chatbot has crossed 100 million MAUs just over two months after its launch, far outpacing the growth rates of significant apps like TikTok and Instagram.

According to the analysis, which used data from data analytics company Similar Web, Spotify only reached 100 million MAUs after four and a half years, TikTok took nine months to acquire the same amount of subscribers, and Instagram took two and a half years.

According to UBS analysts, they “cannot recall a faster rise in a consumer online app in the twenty years we have followed the Internet space.”

According to the research, ChatGPT now has almost twice as many MAUs as it did in December when it had about 57 million. By the end of January, the app had an average of 13 million daily unique visitors, up from about 6 million daily unique views the month before.

According to UBS analysts, “we do not recall an app scaling at this rate.”

When Insider contacted OpenAI for comment on the report after regular US business hours, they did not react right away.

The chatbot, which was introduced in November, quickly gained popularity due to its uncanny ability to code, compose cover letters, and take tests. In just five days, one million users joined.

Shortly after, Microsoft increased its support for OpenAI by making an enormous investment in the AI company, which was reported in January. In 2019, the tech titan had already contributed $1 billion to the business.

On Wednesday, OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Plus, a $20 monthly membership service that enables customers to always have access to the platform and receive quicker chatbot responses.
